This is the page of E-REI – E-Journal of Intercultural Studies, a scientific journal of international scope, published in May, on a yearly basis by the Centre for Intercultural Studies (CEI) of the Business and Accounting School of the Polytechnic of Porto (ISCAP-P.PORTO).

The idea for this Journal came from the interest of our students and trainees for scientific research and from the need to disseminate the works by CEI and their partners, both national and international, both teachers and students. E-REI's Target Audience includes researchers, academics, undergraduate and post-graduate teachers and students, as well as the general public.

On the pages of E-REI, a virtual exchange space is created for ideas and research works in the vast area of Intercultural Studies, in their intersection with Cultural Studies, Translation and Interpreting Studies, Communication Studies, and Literary and Linguistic Studies. The Call for Papers is open annually, between October and February. In case of a large influx of articles it becomes possible to publish one or more volumes in the months of June and July.

Knowledge, dialogue, coexistence and intercultural understanding are essential factors of the multiculturality that characterizes contemporary society. Hence the importance of the prefix INTER of “interculturality”: INTER as a movement of mutual knowledge and as a model of reciprocal communication, in equality, without a dominant or a dominated one. The idea of multiculturalism has oscillated between utopia and political exploitation, as, in reality, many so-called multicultural societies only tolerate the presence of so-called “different” cultures, cultures that live closed in on themselves, marked by ethnicity, religion or by language, without ever trying to get to know each other and live together on a day-to-day basis. But it must be recognized that all cultures are hybrids, all cultures suffer and exert intercultural influences. This is why the purpose of E-REI: E-Journal of Intercultural Studies is to foster the scientific debate on intercultural studies, as the basis for a future of constant translation and dialogue on a global scale.

E-REI is a Journal created, built, and written in freedom and collaboration, as free and collaborative is the research developed at CEI. The title is intentionally ambiguous and ironic. And also brave. If we make a mistake, it means that we have tried. All authors have walked a sinuous and difficult path together, reaching much higher than expected. A path that has given us new perspectives, landscapes, and memories. Like a mountain road with an incomparable view.

E-REI is a peer-reviewed open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or their institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. E-REI has defined rules and ethics determined by the editorial board and scientific committee. E-REI is also accessible at P.PORTO’s OSJ open platform for scientific journals – PARC – where DOI numbers are available.

E-REI is indexed at Latindex , RCAAP – Open Access Scientific Repository of Portugal , ERIHPLUS – European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences , NSD – Norwegian Directorate for Higher Education and Skills, Sherpa Romeo, MIAR – Information Matrix for the Analysis of Journals, CIRC – Integrated Classification of Scientific Journals , SJIF – Scientific Journal Impact Factor, SCOPUS and Google Scholar.
