CEI at the IV RNEC Congress – National Network in Cultural Studies, Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa, 26–27 June

On 26 and 27 June 2025, Universidade Lusófona, in Lisbon, will host the IV Congress of the National Network in Cultural Studies (RNEC) — a reference event for critical and interdisciplinary thinking in the field of Cultural Studies.

Under the theme “Lusophone and Ibero-American Studies as a Field of Research in Science, Culture, and the Arts”, the congress will bring together national and international researchers for two days of intense debate on the social, cultural, and artistic dynamics of Lusophone and Ibero-American contexts. The initiative stands as a privileged space for knowledge exchange and production, intersecting areas such as cultural, postcolonial, artistic, and communication studies.

A key moment of the event will be the participation of Clara Sarmento, director of the CEI – Centre for Intercultural Studies at ISCAP – P.Porto, in the First Plenary Conference, entitled “Colonial, Postcolonial, and Decolonial Studies: History and Memory in Cinema, Culture, and the Arts”. Her talk will reflect on how cultural production revisits and re-inscribes historical and identity narratives.

This edition of the congress also marks an important milestone for RNEC. After three successful editions at the national level, the network will take a decisive step in transitioning into a European Network in Cultural Studies, opening new opportunities for international collaboration and academic interdisciplinarity.

It is worth recalling that the III RNEC Congress took place in 2024, at ISCAP – P.Porto, organized by CEI, and attracted strong participation from both the Portuguese and international academic communities. It is also worth noting that, through CEI, P.Porto was the only Portuguese polytechnic institution invited to join the founding group of RNEC.

The IV RNEC Congress is, therefore, a unique opportunity for researchers, students, and scholars from diverse fields to engage in critical dialogue on the role of cultural studies in today’s world.
