On June 20, 2025, the P.PORTO team – represented by ISCAP’s Center for Intercultural Studies (CEI) – involved in the European project SciArt – Promoting 21st century skills through an inclusive STEAM approach to Cultural Heritage attended the final meeting of the project, held at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
During the session dedicated to sustainability, the P.PORTO team, represented by the Center for Intercultural Studies (CEI), presented the local implementation of SciArt, highlighting:
- Educational activities and training that combine scientific and artistic methods in the study of cultural heritage artifacts.
- The implementation of the SciArt approach, aimed at developing 21st century skills – such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity – through innovative STEAM methods.
SciArt, funded by the Erasmus+ KA2 program (2022-1-CY01-KA220-SCH-000086608), aims to promote inclusive STEAM-based education applied to cultural heritage, and is being developed by a European network of organizations: among them, P.PORTO, the European University of Cyprus, universities and schools in Cyprus and Greece, as well as the Municipal Museum of Esposende and Agrupamento Eugénio de Andrade, in Portugal. The SciArt approach combines:
- The use of accessible instruments, including Augmented Reality tools, applied to the creation of multimodal resources such as enriched digital books.
- The application of five archaeometric techniques, such as microscopy, X-RF spectroscopy and FTIR, in the analysis of real museum artifacts.
- The exploration of themes such as “Routes/Displacements”, exploring artifacts from Cyprus, Greece and Portugal – for example, glass containers, alms dishes linked to a shipwreck in Esposende and paintings about migration – to foster intercultural and interpersonal identity.
The participation of the P.PORTO team in the final and sustainability phases of the project highlights the institution’s commitment to pedagogical innovation, international cooperation and the enhancement of heritage, reinforcing CEI’s role as an interdisciplinary research center.
