CEI, ISCAP and P.PORTO join the European Partnership for Resilient Cultural Heritage (Horizon Europe)

The European project European Partnership for Resilient Cultural Heritage [101304744 — RCH] has been approved under HORIZON-CL2-2025-03-HERITAGE-01, running from 2026 to 2036. The project is coordinated by the Fondation des Sciences du Patrimoine and brings together an exceptional consortium of 95 European partners, reflecting large-scale scientific and institutional ambition.

The Centre for Intercultural Studies (CEI) of ISCAP–P.PORTO is part of this strategic partnership, representing the Polytechnic of Porto in one of the most significant European initiatives at the intersection of cultural heritage, science, public policies and climate action.

Clara Sarmento, Director and Researcher at CEI, represented P.PORTO in this application, strengthening the institution’s positioning within the major structuring programmes of Horizon Europe.

Climate change is a global challenge that severely affects cultural heritage; however, cultural heritage can also provide responses and help mitigate the impacts of climate change on society. The European Partnership for Resilient Cultural Heritage will strengthen research on cultural heritage by developing and promoting, through dissemination and capacity-building activities, innovative solutions, assessment systems, adaptation and mitigation strategies, as well as risk management models, aimed at transmitting cultural heritage to future generations. The goal is to make Europe more resilient and climate-neutral.

This European Partnership stands out for its scientific excellence, its unprecedented critical mass, the strong articulation between research, policy and society, and a long-term vision that invests in transnational joint calls, Living Labs, advanced capacity building and impact-oriented knowledge production.

This represents a decisive step in positioning CEI, ISCAP and P.PORTO at the centre of European research excellence, in a domain that is critical for the future: the construction of a more resilient, culturally informed and climate-neutral Europe.
