CEI participates in Capstone Conference of the COST Action Slow Memory

The Centre for Intercultural Studies (CEI) of ISCAP-P.PORTO is coordinating the visit and workshop “Slow Memories on the City Walls: A (re)discovery of Porto through street art” as part of the Capstone Conference of the COST Action CA20105 “Slow Memory – Transformative Practices for Times of Uneven and Accelerated Change”, which will take place at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto from 2 to 5 July 2025.

Scheduled for the afternoon of 3 July (and already sold out), this visit and workshop offer an itinerary through the city of Porto, guiding participants across both legal and illegal street art that brings color to the city’s walls. Each artwork reveals stories, memories, and emotions. More than a visual experience, the tour invites reflection on street art as a living narrative, deeply embedded in Porto’s identity. The workshop will be led by CEI researchers Ana Margarida Silva, António Oliveira, Inês Pires, Luísa Silva, and Pedro Fernandes, and is part of the StreetArtCEI project (www.streetartcei.com).

That same day, in the morning, researcher Ana Margarida Cruz da Silva (Centre for Intercultural Studies at Porto Accounting and Business School — Polytechnic of Porto) will deliver a presentation entitled “Embracing Slow Living: Rediscovering Time and Culture in Serra da Estrela”. Her talk is also part of the Capstone Conference of the COST “Slow Memory” Action and contributes to the broader dialogue on transformative and sustainable practices in the context of time and memory.

From 2021 to 2025, the COST Action “Slow Memory” brought together over 300 scholars and cultural stakeholders from more than 40 countries, across disciplines and career stages. It aimed to explore how to capture and respond to environmental, economic, and social changes through the innovative concept of “slow memory.” The goal was to launch a new discovery phase in memory studies by fostering networked, transnational, and interdisciplinary research and policy-making that moves beyond a sole focus on conflict and event-driven commemoration.
