CEI Researcher takes part in international Training School on Memories and Sustainability in the Mountains

Ana Margarida Silva, researcher at the Centre for Intercultural Studies (CEI) of ISCAP-P.PORTO, alumna of the Master’s in Intercultural Studies for Business, and FCT PhD fellow, took part in the Training School Mountains for Sustainability: Memories of the Forest, Pastoral Life, and Human-Nature Relations, held in Manteigas, at the Geopark Estrela headquarters, on October 17–18, 2025.

The Training School “Mountains for Sustainability” is part of the activities of the COST Action SHiFT – CA21166 “Social Sciences and Humanities for Transformation and Climate Resilience”. It invited participants to explore the intersections between ecology, memory, and resilience, grounded in the Mountains for Sustainability initiative and projects such as Memories of the Forest. The Training School represents an important step in continuing this collaborative work, reinforcing the relevance of memory, pastoral culture, and local knowledge in building more sustainable futures for mountain regions.

On the proposal and initiative of Ana Margarida Silva, a collection of personal memories was also carried out during the Training School. This material will become part of the project Memórias para Todos (Memories for All), a digital research and oral history collection platform coordinated by the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University Lisbon, thereby contributing to the appreciation of the cultural and environmental heritage of these regions.
