CEI researcher, Ana Margarida Silva, organized and hosted the international workshop “Climate-Vulnerable Territories: Memory, Identity and Resilience in Contexts of Environmental Change” within the SHiFT COST Action CA21166 – Social Sciences and Humanities for Transformation and Climate ResilienceYoung Researchers Council (YRC).
The workshop brought together researchers from diverse disciplinary backgrounds to explore how communities living in climate-vulnerable territories perceive and respond to environmental change. Discussions centred on the role of memory, identity and place in shaping resilience, while showcasing innovative approaches to interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
The programme featured presentations by:
- Elena Todorava (Forest Research Institute, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), “Local knowledge and endogenous potential for enhancing resilience in mountain regions”;
- Ema Bašić (University of Zadar, Institute of Social Sciences Ivo Pilar), “Cultural and creative industries as drivers of sustainable transformation in rural peripheries: lessons from Croatia’s Lika Region”;
- Irene Christoforidi (Hellenic Mediterranean University), “From ecosystem sustainability to island resilience: safeguarding small and medium-sized islands in climate-vulnerable territories”.
In addition to the presentations, participants exchanged experiences on fieldwork, data collection, methodological challenges and interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering dialogue across research communities committed to addressing the social dimensions of climate change.
