- Zuzana Malinovská -
“Zuzana Malinovská is professor of French literature and director of the Institute of Romance Studies. She teaches mainly the literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, but also terminology of legal French. Her research focuses on contemporary French and Quebec fiction; contemporary literature written in French; reception of the literature written in French in Slovakia, cultural relations between France and Slovakia, and criticism of translation. Her extensive bibliography counts hundreds of research papers published in journals and conference proceedings in France, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Canada and Turkey. From her major works it is important to mention a monograph on the novel of the 20th century as well as her most recent book Puissances du romanesque, regard extérieur sur quelques romans contemporains d’expression française (The power of the novel; considerations upon several contemporary novels written in French from outside) published in France. Recently, she has translated the novel Moravagine by Blaise Cendrars.”

“Adriána Koželová received two Master's degrees at the University of Prešov. One in French philology (1999), and the other in Translation studies: specialization in Spanish (2003). She holds a doctorate in literary criticism from the same university. As an assistant professor at the Institute, she teaches theory and practice of translation, interpreting and Spanish language. She participates in several projects and her research papers mostly conducted in the field of translation studies in general, translation criticism are published in scientific journals in Slovakia and abroad."

The Institute of Romance Studies of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Prešov is the second oldest department of romance studies in Slovakia. For more than a half century it provides instruction in various study programs for students of romance languages who then apply for prestigious job on the work market in Slovakia as well as abroad. Our graduates hold important positions in international or foreign companies or they work as interpreters and translators in the institutions of the European Union. Study program: French Language and Culture Studies in combination as a part of the Translation and Interpreting study branch (BA and MA cycle). The research is conducted in the following areas: a.) Literary criticism, with focus on contemporary French and Quebec fiction, contemporary literature written in French. b.) Linguistics, with focus on comparative approach to selected linguistic phenomena, c.) Translation studies, with focus on literary and non-literary translation. We maintain official partnerships with universities in various countries across Europe and in Canada. The most intense cooperation occurs with the University Blaise Pascal in Clermont-Ferrand or the University of Ankara in Turkey. The Institute offers its students a possibility to spend a part of their training at one of the partner universities within the framework of the program Erasmus+.
